- It's mainly the lungs which are located in your chest.
What is the role of the system?
-First, it takes in oxygen, and then the oxygen in turn will collect in
the pulmonary veins, get carried to the heart where it will then
be sent through all of our cells.
- Second, it will recieve oxygen depleted blood from the heart originally from
the pulmonary arteries and release carbon dioxide waste from cellular metabolism.
- Third, the system will regulate teh acid-base balance of the body, known as the
pH balance. The brain and lungs work together to maintain the blood slightly acidic.
It is specifically maintained at the same balance because even the slightest change
from normal can severely damage many organs. The primary function of the respiratory system is the supply of oxygen to the blood so it can then deliver oxygen to all parts of the body
What is each organ's function in this body system?
Nose: helps us to breath, smell, and filter air into our lungs. When we inhale through our nose, air passes
through our nostrils into a short and narrow area known as the nasil passagethat leads to the back
of the throath (pharynx).
Pharynx: the lower part of the pharynx allows only air, foods, and fluids to pass by, while the upper part only allows food to pass through.
Larynx: it guards the passage to airways that lead to the lungs. This function ensures that the airways are open, which means we get to breath. The larynx is a key part of our existence because without the ability to breath, we wouldn't be on this earth for very long. when we are eating, the entrance to the larynx shuts down, which makes sure no food get into the windpipe, which leads to the lungs.
Trachea: the function of the trachea is to maintain and protect the airway. It's lined with mucus glands which is humidifying as the air passes through it and will catch small particles before they enter. The trechea itself it supplied by nerves that are a part of the cough reflex that will help to eliminate aggravation to the throat.
Bronchi: it supports the passage of air from the windpipe to the alveoli in the lungs where the actual exchange of air takes place
Bronchioles: are smaller airways that send the air on to the inside walls of the lungs where the alveolia will allow the oxygen to be absorbed by the blood cells and then will oxygenate the blood cells that will then travel throughout the body.
Terminal Bronchioles: they are the smallest air conducting ducts that supply each pulmonary acini. A pulmonary acini is the ending of a tiny airway in the lung.

How do people make sure their body system remains healthy?
- Eat healthy by watching what a he/she takes into their body. Don't smoke and stay away from second hand smoke. Stay around healthy, freash air. To maintain fresh air, plant a garden in the summer time, keep green plants in the house all year long. Having green plants around adds more clean and fresh oxygen into the air. Another way is to exercise till out of breath because it will get the blood flowing and require the body to pump more blood throughout the body.
What cango wrong with the Respiratory System?
- A person can be diagnosed with Pnuemonia, asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, and pulmonary hypertension.
What would happen to a person if something went wrong with the Respiratory System?
- Depending on the severity of the condition medication is needed to calm down extensive coughing, weazing, shortness of breath. If a person is diagnosed with lung cancer, he/she may have to under go surgery to remove it if possible. It seems that medication is given more so than surgery.
Could a person survive without their Respiratory System?
- An individual would not be able to survive without their respiratory system. Oxygen is a must in our everyday lives to keep us alive. If a person's respiratory system failed, he/she would not survive any longer than a few minutes.
